Do Not Forget
- Vehicle inspection (tires, oil, fluids)
- Roadside emergency kit
- Paper maps or downloaded offline maps
- Car charger and charging cables
- Snacks and a cooler
- Prescription medications
- Reservation confirmations (hotels, campgrounds)
- Driver's license and insurance card
Vehicle Prep
- Check tire pressure (including spare)
- Check oil level
- Check coolant, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid
- Test all lights (headlights, brake lights, turn signals)
- Check wiper blades
- Confirm registration and insurance are current
- Schedule oil change if due within trip mileage
- Clean windshield inside and out
Documents & Money
- Driver's license
- Vehicle registration
- Insurance card
- Passport (if crossing borders)
- Hotel and campground reservation confirmations
- National Parks pass (if applicable)
- Cash (small bills for tolls and tips)
- Credit and debit cards
Navigation
Roadside Emergency
- Spare tire (inflated)
- Jack and lug wrench
- Jumper cables or portable jump starter
- Reflective triangles or road flares
- Flashlight or headlamp
- Basic tool kit
- Duct tape and zip ties
- Tow strap
- First aid kit
- Roadside assistance membership (AAA or similar)
Food & Drinks
- Cooler with ice
- Water bottles (filled)
- Road trip snacks (bars, nuts, jerky, fruit)
- Sandwiches or easy meals for day one
- Coffee thermos
- Reusable cups and utensils
- Paper towels and napkins
- Trash bag (hanging from headrest)
Overnight Gear
- Clothing for each day + 1 extra
- Toiletries bag
- Pillow (car pillow or travel pillow)
- Blanket or sleeping bag
- Sleeping pad (if camping)
